Stay in the know and get inspired

You can push posts and content out, but without knowing the algorithm changes and various new feature releases, you can be leaving money on the table or setting yourself up for a publicity nightmare.

Let’s get up to speed with the big updates first, and then move to fun post ideas.

Social Media Updates:

Biggest update: UMG license agreement expired January 31 with Tik Tok, so songs from the top artists (Taylor Swift, Billie Eillish, etc) are being removed from videos.

Why this matters:

  • It’s an opportunity for smaller artists and creators to be heard since other selections of music are gone
  • This is a massive change to the user experience and how content is enjoyed. Brands need to implement a sustainable strategy for accessing and utilizing sounds for promotional content.
  • Good news is royalty free music for businesses does exist on Tik Tok already.

Reels continue to be king for short-form content on Instagram. While this push exists on Instagram aggressively, it is trickling into other platforms. Videos are likely going to perform better than still images or graphic. Even on LinkedIn, content with visuals tends to perform better.

Why this matters:

  • It is a great strategy guide, since there is a specific route for content creation the platform is encouraging users to take.
  • When no single form of content is favored by the algorithm, sometimes you have to throw spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks — but this is not the case. Instagram has provided the tips.
  • “Meta noted that Reels now makes up more than 20% of the time that people spend on Instagram, while video overall accounts for 50% of the time that users spend on Facebook.”

Your extensively themed profile grid may be a waste of energy — this one is a hot take from Meta’s Will Yoder since I love the look of a good feed. However, almost no one who interacts with your content is seeing it on your profile, they see the post in their feed.

Why this matters:

  • Spending more than the time needed to simply ensure the post is of high quality and fits brand standards to fit an extensive theme may be hurting your account, as the time devoted to that upkeep could be used in other ways.

It is OK to post multiple times a day, if your audience allows for it— try to avoid comparing frequency of posts and simply focus on quality and engagement.
